Dear friends of the Global Food Summit,

The future is a state of mind, and it has a name: Bioeconomy. Today, we are where we would never have dreamed of being ten years ago: We are making edible proteins, from CO2, bacteria and energy; we are producing lettuce in space or in polar ice; and we can use artificial intelligence to predict future flavors and thus sales markets. Biotechnology and biochemistry open a door to create agricultural products indoors.

So are we at the dawn of a bioeconomic age? This question will be discussed at the Global Food Summit on April 28 and 29 with politicians, startups, companies and scientists from around the world.

Michaela Kaniber, Minister of State for Food, Agriculture and Forestry in Bavaria, will open the conference with a welcoming speech.

For the first time, DIL, the German Institute of Food Technologies, will participate in the Global Food Summit as a partner with two Innovation Food Conference (iFood) sessions, on the topics CONSUMER PERSPECTIVES and SUSTAINABLE FOOD SYSTEMS.

Our media partner, the new Neue Zürcher Zeitung will design a discussion panel. Stephanie Lahrtz, science journalist at the NZZ, will discuss with Bernhard Kowatsch from the Nobel Prize-winning World Food Program, Dr. Andy Zynga from EIT Foods and Prof. Jan Wörner, the new president of the German Academy of Sciences, acatech.

And Felix Willert, manager at innovate! Osnabrück, will lead through the start-up session together with Johanna Kallenbach from the Nutrition Cluster in Bavaria.

Two days, 7 sessions, 45 speakers from all over the world, from Singapore, Tucson, Rome, to Paris, Finland, Israel, the Netherlands and Bangladesh.

The topic of Alternative Proteins in Metropolises, we discuss with the Chairman of Singapore Food Agency, Lim Chuan Poh, Dr. Pasi Vainikka from Solar Foods, or Didier Toubia, from Aleph Farms - arguably the two most innovative companies in food manufacturing at the moment.

How can we measure the progress of sustainability and the bioeconomy? Prof. Justus Wesseler of Wageningen University and Dr. Michael Binder of Evonik will speak on this topic.
And our Global Panel will feature Máximo Torero, FAO, Oriana Romano, OECD, Dirk Voeste, BASF and Joel Cuello from the University of Arizona in Tucson. Key questions are: What is the role of international organizations in this new bioeconomic and circular approach? How can we ensure that all societies worldwide benefit from this transformation?

So, make your choice and register, at globalfoodsummit.live. Choose the topic that interests you.

I look forward to welcoming you to our digital conference.

Yours sincerely, Unterschrift Stephan Becker-Sonnenschein Stephan Becker-Sonnenschein

We present: The joint sessions with our partners from DIL, NZZ, innovate! and the Cluster Ernährung Bayern

This Global Food Summit 2021 is a premiere in many respects:
For the first time, it will take place completely virtually - and we are organizing special themed sessions together with our partners.

The first of these will be held on April 28 by innovate! from Osnabrück. Felix Willert from innovate! will moderate the start-up session at the Global Food Summit and present international start-ups.
innovate! Osnabrück is a networking platform for the topic of digitalization in the agricultural sector.

Together with Felix Willert, Johanna Kallenbach from the Food Cluster Bavaria will moderate the start-up session. The cluster represents the Bavarian state government on our board of trustees and will present the Bavarian newcomers.

The next session will be the iFood innovation food conference from the German Institute of Food Technologies DIL. The internationally active research institute with about 200 experts in Quakenbrück deals with food technology and the food sciences.
This year, the DIL is the cooperation partner of the Global Food Summit and will be represented with two thematic sessions and international experts: On April 28 on Consumer Perspectives and on April 29 on Sustainable Food Systems.

Last but not least, the Neue Züricher Zeitung, NZZ, will be organizing a session on "Eastern Efficiency - EU Green Deal - American Entrepreneurship" on April 29. The panel will be held in German. The renowned and traditional Swiss newspaper is considered the leading media in the German-speaking region and is our media partner this year. The session will be moderated by NZZ science editor Stephanie Lahrtz.

We are very much looking forward to the sessions of our partners!

A look into the future: Solar Foods and Aleph Farms

They are probably the most exciting food startups in the world right now:
Solar Foods from Finland and Aleph Farms from Israel.

Solar Foods produces food virtually from nothing: a combination of air, natural fermentation and renewable energy enables the production of what is arguably the world's most sustainable, natural protein.

Aleph Farms grows steaks directly from cattle cells without harming animals or the environment. This makes the steaks not only arguably the most animal-friendly in the world, but also automatically organic.

Meet the minds behind the revolutionary start-ups: Dr. Pasi Vainikka, CEO of Solar Foods, and Didier Toubia, CEO of Aleph Farms, will be speakers and discussants in our session THE MOLECULAR WAY TO PRODUCE FOOD, on April 29, 2021, from 9:00 to 11:00 am.
